From “In the spirit”

Posted in Books - Fav. Selections, English at 12:43 pm by Rou...

A dear friend of mine shared this with me today…

I truly felt it and thought that it is very true indeed… Because, a time comes in your life when you just have to stop and reconsider everything and everyone…

Anyways, I thought of sharing it with you…

From “In the spirit” By Susan Taylor

“Not everyone is healthy enough to have a front seat in our lives. There are some people in your life that need to be loved from a distance. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you let go of or at least minimize your time with draining, negative, incompatible, not going anywhere relationships.

Observe the relationships around you. Pay attention. Which ones lift and which ones lean? Which ones encourage and which ones discourage? Which ones are on a path of growth uphill, and which ones are going downhill?

When you leave certain people, do you feel better or do you feel worse? Which ones always have drama or don’t really understand, know or appreciate you?

The more you ask quality, respect, growth, peace of mind, love and peace around you…the easier it will become for you to decide who gets to sit in the front row and who should be moved to the balcony of your life.”

A Wedding Ceremony……………………….

Posted in English, Reflections at 12:42 pm by Rou...

Just a question…

Is it normal that a magnificent piece of architecture built almost 100 years ago such as the Baron Empain Palace (Qasr Al Baron) of Heliopolis be used for a wedding ceremony???

Even if it is just the garden… I mean… is that what we finally decided to do with such a heritage…?

Well, it happened… and I saw it myself today! A wedding ceremony for GOD’s sake!

Ah… Ya Rab, Where are we heading to…? I wonder!

مرفوض

Posted in Arabic, Reflections at 2:04 pm by Rou...

On every street…

Posted in English, Reflections at 4:16 pm by Rou...

Inspired by a line from Dire Straits’ song “On every street”…

On a bright day, under a perfect blue sky… I walk…

Through the strange falling rain failing to wash away my despair… I walk…

I walk aimlessly… that’s what I do…

And as I shed my tomorrows in some vanishing dreams…

… It’s still… your face that I’m looking for in every street…

A spell it is that you have placed on me…

Crossing mountains and valleys just to reach…

The ray of sunshine you bring to my heart…

To lighten the darkness my soul now engraves…

… And it’s still… your face that I’m looking for in every street…

With a bleeding heart I reach out for you in every falling star…

And whisper your name to anyone who passes by…

Holding tightly to a desperate hope of seeing you again…

With ignite passion merged into my now dispirited dreams…

… Yet… it’s still your face that I’m looking for in every street…

The Paradoxical Commandments (a.k.a. Do it Anyway!)

Posted in English, Reflections at 12:40 pm by Rou...

The “Do it anyway” piece has always been attributed to Mother Teresa’s quotes. However, I came across a piece of info yesterday that explains that it was originally written by someone called Kent M. Keith as part of a book for student leaders entitled The Silent Revolution: Dynamic Leadership in the Student Council, published by Harvard Student Agencies back in the year 1968.

The conflict of attributing it to Mother Teresa resulted from the fact that she put it up on the wall of her children’s home in Calcutta. This was reported in a book compiled by Lucinda Vardey, Mother Teresa: A Simple Path, which was published in 1995. As a result, some people have attributed the Paradoxical Commandments to Mother Teresa.

Below is the original piece written by Kent M. Keith along with the one attributed to Mother Teresa.

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

~ By Kent M. Keith, 1968

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;

Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful you will win some false friends and true enemies;

Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;

Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;

Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;

Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;

Give the world the best you’ve got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;

It was never between you and them anyway.
