On Death…

Posted in English, Reflections at 12:28 pm by Rou...

Two weeks ago, on the roof of an old building in Champollion Street in downtown Cairo, was my first experience ever with  that place that I have been hearing about a lot for years; “The Art Therapy center” that was founded by Dr. Magdy Refaat back in 2003…

Yesterday morning, I heard the sad news that the famous psychotherapist artist had passed away…

It is so bizarre that you meet somebody someday who tells you about your inner self and emotions through your drawings, and helps you in exploring your own feelings, dreams, fears, and memories, not knowing that a few days later he will become a “Past Tense”…

It’s funny that we always tend to ignore this fact called “Death”… I mean… it’s strange that death is the simplest and most basic and obvious truth in our lives, yet we seem to fail to truly interpret it… We seem to totally forget about it, and we keep on going into our lives as if we’re staying in this world forever… We dedicate our time and energy towards things that we consider of supreme importance, such as material possessions, pleasures, reputations, fame, money… We are so anxious and lost in the thoughts and concerns of this hectic life, giving no room in our minds or hearts for the genuine and true things we want to make of our lives… of the “Real US”!

This man wasn’t like this… He did it “his way” at least…

“We are alive, therefore we will die!”… I read this quote somewhere in time before…

R.I.P. Dr. Magdy…
